Microsoft has confirmed that it will be discontinuing some of its Xbox consoles—specifically the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital editions—as it prepares for the launch of its new Xbox Series X, which is scheduled for launch this holiday season together with its rival Sony’s PlayStation 5.
The decision came “naturally,” as Microsoft put it, as demand for the current-gen consoles skyrocket amid a global pandemic that has kept people self-isolating at home. But while production for the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital will be terminated, it’s possible that consumers may still find them being sold in retailers worldwide.
“Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally. Gamers can check with their local retailers for more details on Xbox One hardware availability,” said a Microsoft representative in a press statement.
The Xbox One X was first launched in the market in 2017 and was branded as the “the world’s most powerful console” at the time. Meanwhile, the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition was introduced only in April last year.
