Over the years, Tyra Banks has been criticized by fans for her problematic behavior during America’s Next Top Model. You may be familiar with some of her most infamous moments: when she yelled to contestant Tiffany: “I was rooting for you, we were all rooting for you!”, when she told a queer contestant to “tone down” her sexuality to be accepted in the industry, and when she darkened the girls’ skins for a photoshoot. One only needs to rewatch old seasons of ANTM to also know that she has been guilty of fat-shaming, brushing off a contestant’s sexual assault claims, and judging a girl for having posed for Playboy magazine.

It’s only now, however, that Tyra broke her silence amid these criticisms thanks to various video clips of her controversial moments resurfacing online and the contestants in question finally speaking out about them.
“Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ANTM moments and I agree with you,” she tweeted on Friday. “Looking back, those were some really off choices. Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs.”
Sadly, it didn’t sound at all like an apology and it’s unknown whether Tyra will ever suffer from the ramifications of her actions. But we can rest well knowing that girls worldwide are speaking out against these wrongful judgments and will continue to use this as an example to never base their worth on what other people say.

Tyra has hosted ANTM since its premiere in 2003. Rita Ora took over her role for Cycle 23, but Tyra returned for Cycle 24 back in 2018.
