If you’re reading this, there’s probably one thing you and I have in common—our love for chicken. Whether it’s roasted, char-grilled, or deep-fried, there’s just something about chicken that keeps us craving more. It’s the ultimate comfort food.
I’ve heard about Chubby Chicken from friends who have raved about the joint’s budget-friendly prices and deep-fried goodness. It has been around for quite a while now, and has become one of the staple hangout places of students in the Katipunan area.

So, I gave their chicken a try to assess just how “chubbyfied” their chicken strips actually are. I have three criteria when critiquing chicken:
1. It MUST be well-cooked
My first criterion, and the most important, is that the chicken must be well-cooked, with no traces of red in the meat. If it’s red, it’s inedible for me. Before taking a bite into the chicken strips, I cut them in half first to look for even the faintest trace of red. All around, perfectly cooked white meat. First test, check.
2. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside
My second criterion is that the chicken must be crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. For fried chicken, the crust has to be evenly-coated. Chubby Chicken’s strips are generous cuts of breast fillet with just enough breading to add that crisp I look for in fried chicken. Even though the strips were thick, they were tender. They weren’t greasy. Every bite into the chicken made my mouth water. Second test, check.
3. Flavor
My third criterion is that a chicken must be flavorful enough even without any sauce added. The Chubby Chicken strips come with a choice of sweet or spicy sauce, but the real test was to eat the chicken without the sauce. Without the sauce, the strips were still tasty—not bland, not too salty, just right. They were seasoned just lightly enough so that the natural taste of the chicken comes through. As is, the chicken was good, so the sauce only served to complement the already flavorful meat. Definitely better than popular fast-food chicken joints!
