In recent years, Filipino food has been slowly gaining recognition in places such as the United States, one that is long overdue given the number of Filipino-Americans in America.
And with food trends such as ube, halo-halo and sisig emerging, it seems that Filipino food is poised to become the ethnic cuisine du jour. It’s a welcome step forward, then, that pastry chef Margarita Manzke of the wildly popular Wildflour Café + Bakery is set to open a Filipino restaurant in Los Angeles!
According to Eater Los Angeles, the Wildflour co-owner is working on a “savory side Filipino concept” focusing on silog dishes, with the most Filipino name ever: Sari Sari Store, a “small, colorful and casual” restaurant offering “easygoing comfort” dishes.
Manzke is no stranger to the restaurant business in LA, though. The pastry chef and restaurateur also owns a French eatery in LA called Republique with her husband, Walter, who is also a chef.
