It’s not for the reason you think it is.
In the midst of the 2015 Miss Universe hullabaloo, the internet has yet again gone ablaze on the burning effigy of Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, posted on Facebook by a certain Noider Almanza Barraza, a Colombian.
Days after the video had gone viral and received a backlash from netizens, the Colombian took down the video from his Facebook page, posting an apology through a status update.
Barraza apologized for offending the people of the Philippines, explaining that the effigy-burning was actually a Colombian tradition, wherein Colombians burn effigies of “characters or things that caused controversy in the year” and leave them behind in the past, in order to start anew in the coming year.
The 2015 Miss Universe made headlines when host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Miss Colombia, 21-year-old Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner, only to rebuke his statement in public and later on announced Pia Wurtzbach as Miss Universe.

This effigy burning is referred to as año nuevo (new year), a tradition in Latin America performed before the year ends.
Glad that was settled!
What are your thoughts on this?
Deeply sick..He’s total loser… ill loser ” like Miss Colombia,
Why didnt he just burnt effigy of his country’s doll,Ariadna. The gaffe is from Harvey, alright, but if not for Ariadna’s behavior as if her something was stolen from her,Colombia wont be dragged into such controversial chaos. Our Pia has nothing to do with your immature unsportsmanship..she had kept quiet all this time, though she’s also a victim..if there’s anyone who took away anything from someone..it is Ariadna who stole Queen Pia’s supposed to be crowning moment.
Dont make your tradition look disgusting in the eyes of the world, there is called ‘racial differences’..think before you click.
Naniwala ka naman? Tsk tsk
