Elderton Winery’s Selection of Wines for the night

 

A TASTE OF AUSTRALIA 

I had so much fun at Sofitel’s recently concluded “Tastes of Australia” event, in which Sofitel featured a selection of Australia’s finest vintage as provided by Elderton Winery. These variants of Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Golden Semillon were then paired with some of Spiral buffet’s delectable offerings, complete with a guided menu and commentary from Cameron Ashmead of Elderton Wines himself. It was a premium crash course on wine and food pairing against such a decadent setting, perfect for dates and intimate get-togethers!

That night I got to acquaint myself with 2-3 year old wines and discovered which was best paired with my seafood, steak, salad and dessert. Experiencing how each type of wine enhanced and affected the flavor of each dish was an eye-opener; my salmon sashimi tasted creamier, the robust flavors of steak were emphasized, and dessert was twice as sweet. It was basically an explosion of flavors in my mouth, as Sofitel’s F&B Director Damien Marchenay put it.

This event happened to be my first food and wine pairing experience, and being in the presence of so much wine was especially daunting. However, the overall relaxed vibe of the event (and heady effects of the wine!) calmed my nerves and made the event all the more enjoyable. So fret not if you’re a wine-pairing newbie like me! Just bring a nice date or your bestie, a big appetite, and you’re all set for a night of exquisite wines, great food, and a one-of-a-kind experience.
