Last November 22, we discovered a hole in the wall in Kapitolyo, Pasig named Lia’s Cakes in Season. It’s a quaint little cake shop that has been serving original avocado cakes since 1967. It’s interiors are 100% Instagram worthy and made us want to try it out.

They serve a variety of cakes like Durian, Ube, Calamansi, Banana Caramel, and even Puto Bumbong; but as their tagline suggests, Avocado is their specialty. All of these cakes are made with fresh fruits, so if you’re looking for the perfect dessert with a taste of real fruit to cap off a nice meal, this will surely hit the spot.
4 Avocado Cake Variants- Cheesecake, Sansrival, Special, and Chocolate
We sat down at our booth and talked about how nice the place is for first dates while waiting for our desserts. Upon tasting each cake that was served to us, an idea came to mind: what if these cakes personified the different people we’ve dated at different points in our lives?
We mused at that thought and came up with a list of all the “cake dates” we’ve had. Here’s what we came up with.
8 Types of Cake Dates at Lia’s Cakes In Season
8. The Happy Crush – Avocado Cake
This is a classic. It reminds you of those enjoyable friendly dates that assure you that nothing can go wrong. This boy-next-door/girl-next-door may not be “the one”, but you surely wouldn’t mind going back for another date or two.

7. The Experiment/ One Night Stand – Durian Cake
The Durian Cake isn’t bad at all. The flavor is 100% authentic Durian (trust us– it is as if you’re eating the real fruit) and the cake itself is really good and dense in texture. My friend said this one is probably someone you’d only date once – just for the fun of it – and if you’re feeling adventurous. Thus the name “The Experiment” or for a more explicit term, “The One Night Stand”. She says it really is good – and that says a lot because she doesn’t like Durian.
(It really depends on the person, though… some people may go back for it!)

6. The Seasonal Love – Puto Bumbong Cake
Imagine going to the beach and falling in love with someone there. You love everything about that person, but you know it won’t work out because of the distance. It’s just someone seasonal. Now imagine that person is visiting the city and they ask you out on a date– this Puto Bumbong Cake is exactly IT. As you’re eating this cake, you’ll remember why you loved that person and all the happiness will come rushing in. It’s time to feel that seasonal love again this Christmas!

5. The One You Need to DTR – Calamansi Cake
“Do I really like you?” “What are we?” These are the types of questions you’ll be asking if you’re out on a date with this one. You really can’t tell if you like it or not; you just need to go ahead and try it to find out. Like all cakes at Lia’s, the bread itself is tasty and dense. There’s that hint of Calamansi in every bite and a nice touch of sweetness on top to balance it all off. Really, you need to eat this cake and DTR yourself. All that we can say is we’re just friends.

4. The Mistress – Avocado Chocolate Cake
Everyone’s guilty pleasure. You know it’s wrong, but you can’t help it because it’s so delicious. The moist chocolate cake perfectly matches the Avocado filling. We named in The Mistress because you’re cheating… on your diet. No regrets trying this one! “Maybe just for tonight.” Right, but more like: “cheat day every week, please!”

3. The Rebound – Avocado Sans Rival
This date is someone you go out with when you’re sad. It’s the perfect comfort food. However, like any other rebound, it’s volatile– just like this cake’s texture! As you slice it with your fork, you will hear the crunchy sound of the flaky sans rival (is that the anguish of the person you’re dating because they’re only a rebound?). It’s real comfort food that you will like, nonetheless.

2. The One – Avocado Cheesecake
Your soulmate. Your true love. Your “The One”. If you are already a fan of cheesecakes, this Avocado flavored one will definitely step up the game. It’s light, creamy, and delicious on all levels. The whipped cream is also really good (it beats my favorite whipped cream). Plus the base is crumbly just the way I like it.
There is nothing but pure love for this Avocado Cheesecake. If I could rate this higher than 5, I honestly would.

1. The One That Got Away – Ube Cheesecake
This Ube Cheesecake has everything you want in a person. They are definitely your type and you’ll savor every moment during this date. We named it The One That Got Away because as much as we loved it, Lia’s Cakes in Season’s Avocado Cheesecake stands out more.

Lia’s also serves good pasta (their Aligue Pasta and Homestyle Spaghetti are to die for), so can have a savory meal before digging into their scrumptious desserts. I am not a spaghetti fan, but the sauce they use is really special.
