4. Truly, the way to a happy heart is a happy tummy. Here, I was spoiled with Iloilo’s array of delicacies! Their HUGE Ensaymada is a must-try (perfect with their rich coffee!) And, to top it all off, make sure NOT to miss the famous La Paz Batchoy! Its humble beginnings from the La Paz market has changed the soup game in the country.
Netong’s Original Special La Paz Batchoy’s got unlimited chicharon, unlimited sabaw, unlimited garlic .. okay. The more the merrier is indeed the way to go to devour the famous dish!
Trivia: the unli rice concept originated here too!
5. Rich flavors, check. Rich culture, CHECK! Iloilo was a hub of the Spanish and the Americans back in the day, which makes sense because it was once a port of foreign trade. The arts flourished and was cultivated eventually in the region for the years to follow, where a Contemporary Art Museum now stands!
Opened just this year, the Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA) now houses the many works of Visayan artists – some of those displayed are artists from Manila and outside the Philippines, but still trace their roots from the Western Visayas islands. ILOMOCA does not only showcase the works of Visayan artists, but also the ones made by Filipinos from different parts of the country. There are a couple of notable others from international artists as well.
Five exhibition rooms, a theatre chamber and three floors are filled to welcome visitors in exposing not just the Filipino talent in the arts but giving them a mere demonstration and culmination of the cultural influences that made Iloilo who she is today.
