Being healthy is not just limited to the physical and external aspects of ourselves. Beauty and genuine happiness come from within and we can only tap into that by making a conscious effort to take care of ourselves in every way possible.

Here are some quick and easy self-care tips to help improve your lifestyle:

5 Lifestyle and Self-Care Tips for a Better You!

5. Practice gratefulness and mindfulness.

In toxic, high-pressure, and stressful environments, we often lose sight of the good things in our lives that we should be grateful for. Our day is easily poisoned when one bad thing happens, in spite of several good things that have happened throughout the day. Now, imagine if your day was bombarded with a string of bad things happening. How do you even deal???

Start your day right by asking yourself: what are you grateful for? The key is to narrow it down to something specific and uniquely yours. Maybe a co-worker who you don’t talk to held the door open for you and asked you about your day, but you forgot to thank him because you were so caught up with a task.

End your day right, as well, by asking what it was about your day that you’re grateful for. Recalling the good and the bad parts of your day, week, month, and year will help you be more mindful of what life wants to tell and teach you about yourself and other people.

*Tip: It’s also a good habit to keep a journal for this, so you can look back at it when you’re having a bad day. You’ll soon realize that your day is actually filled with all sorts of blessings.

4. Take a journey of self-discovery to learn about you and your body.

We’re often afraid of spending alone time, but it’s a necessary step to get to know ourselves better. More than just asking what we like and dislike, what makes us happy, or what makes us uncomfortable; we also need to look into the numbers, like what color of lipstick works best for you? What is your body type? What is your current Body Mass Index (BMI)? How high is your blood sugar?

Asking yourself these questions will help you achieve a healthy lifestyle and avoid sickness and disease in the long run.

When you know yourself well inside and out, it’s easier to make and achieve your goals because you can make them more specific, reasonable, and attainable.

*Tip: Apps are available for measuring and tracking your BMI. Try to download one for your phone to help monitor your health!

3. Go on a diet and exercise.

Speaking of health and lifestyle goals, weight loss is a common goal we all have on our New Year’s resolution lists (the one that often gets neglected). Knowing your BMI and body fat percentage is a good starting point for setting a target weight to work towards.

Part and parcel of an effective weight loss strategy is the right combination of diet and exercise. In terms of diet, it’s always best to consult a dietitian before jumping into new fad diets. Generally speaking, though, it’s always a good idea to replace instant and canned food with natural and organic fruits and veggies.

It is recommended that we exercise or commit to at least 30 minutes of physical activity everyday. Physical activity need not be sweating it out in the gym.

It can be as simple as walking in a park, biking around a village, or even shopping around a mall. Doctors recommend avoiding spending our down time doing sedentary activities like sitting on a couch while watching TV.

*Tip: If you struggle with weight loss, treat yourself (and your body) to Mesotherapy, a cosmetic procedure wherein your body, specifically the mesodermal layer of your skin, is injected with vitamins to reduce fat and cellulite. The number of mesotherapy sessions usually depends on the size of the fat and the frequency of the treatments. Most mesotherapy treatments are available at derma-clinics.

2. Follow a skin care regimen.

Part of getting to know yourself means getting to know your skin and its needs. The skin on your face usually requires a different kind of treatment compared to the skin on your body. Much of our being is expressed through our face, so part of self-care means taking good care of our faces.

The best way to start is by finding out your skin type. Aside from reading and researching on Google, visit your dermatologist and ask about the skin care products that would suit your needs.

Knowing what skin type you have will make it easier for you to shop and budget for skin care products and services that’ll help brighten your skin and bring out your best look. Dermatologists advise that you visit them every other month and get regular facials. Regardless of whether you’re male or female, facials are recommended to clear your pores of deep-seated dirt and bacteria that can leave facial scars and damage.

*Tip: Visit your dermatologist’s clinics regularly. Most clinics offer huge discounts for regular customers. Check in on your local derma-clinic and keep an eye out for promo sessions for facial and skincare treatments.

That way, you’ll be more inclined to keep your self-care routine.

1. Have a regular self-care routine.

Self-care isn’t just a one-time-treat-yourself kind of deal. In order for self-care to have a more positive impact on our life and well-being, one must practice self-care on a regular basis. In other words, we constantly need to learn about ourselves, remind ourselves of our worth, and take care of ourselves.

Self-care routines is as easy as starting a basic skin care routine, like putting on sunblock everyday to prevent wrinkles and skin damage, or putting on moisturizer to prevent stretch marks and dry skin. After all, our well-being is reflected in how we look and how we behave. So, always take care of yourself! 🙂
