A few weeks ago, I discovered that a long-time friend of mine, Sam Ty, also known as โthe Noodleโ behind The Noodle Bakes, started a pastry business that definitely captures the attention of many.

And it shouldnโt be too surprising. After studying at New Yorkโs International Culinary Center (formerly known as French Culinary Institute), Sam came home and began her own line of quirky cakes and pastries designed to make you wonder about its names, at the same time, satisfy that sweet tooth.
Already featured in Sandy Dazaโs column, Word of Mouth, in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, as well as Town & Countryโs February 2013 issue, the Noodle Bakes is slowly yet surely tickling everybody’s tummy. Just last week, Sam sent me one of her best sellers: the Schmoeโa toasted marshmallow slathered cake with sโmore-ish innards (grahamy and chocolatey!). It comes in two sizes: the 6-inch for P600 and the 9-inch for P1050. The cake was a peculiar yet delectable blend of salty and sweet. The inner layers were firm, and I definitely enjoyed munching on the toasted marshmallow icing!
Other cakes offered are the Chaz, a red velvet cake with a fudgy bottom and iced with cream cheese frosting, the Tosi, inspired by Momofuku Milk Barโs Crack Pie, which is a buttery sponge with a butterscotch-like center and covered in buttercream, the Thirty-Sevenโthe Noodleโs version of an Oreo cheesecake, and (this name is my favorite) the Garth Vaderโpeanut butter enrobed in a deep and dark chocolate ganache, encaged in a fence of chocolate meringue.
Aside from cakes, the Noodle also bakes assorted macarons that come in chocolate, coffee caramel, kaya, pistachio, lemon, salted caramel, peanut butter and jelly, sesame, and speculoos flavors (speculoos = flavor of the month).

When in Manila and mystified by the Noodle Bakes’ cakes (and the stories behind their names) order a cake or two now to see for yourself the cleverness of Chef Sam Ty’s mouthwatering desserts.
