Netizen Shares: Davao Residents Donated Rice to the Farmers of Cotabato City

Last week, wasn’t a pleasant one for our fellow countrymen. Another bloody and chaotic incident happened between the policemen and our farmers in Kidapawan, Cotabato City.

Not to mention, the daunting experience of the students of Ateneo (due to an alleged bomb threat), and the fire that broke out to two top schools in Manila – UP and UE Manila.

Sadly, what happened to the farmers who have been experiencing a drought for several months now, had a barbaric and bloody encounter with the policemen who dispersed them last week.

According to the news, these farmers were protesting and demanding for financial support and rice to get them by. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out peacefully. Hence, two farmers were reportedly killed.

Fortunately, there are people who are kind-hearted and have the initiative to help the oppressed.

Davao donated rice to kidapawan

According to the post shared by a Netizen named Leeo Dreamcatcher, donating rice sacks to the farmers are under the initiative of the people of Davao City.

He also questioned the ability of the government officials of Cotabato City why can’t they give rice to the farmers when Davao can give (rice) in less than 24 hours.

Exact words:

“Ganito kadami ang bigay na bigas ng mga tao ng Davao na wala pang 24 hours. Bkit nagawa ito ng mga taga Davao at bkit hindi nagawa ng Gov. ng North Cot.? Pakiexplain!”

Here’s the full caption to the photos shared online:

Para sa mga farmers natin… Initiative of people of Davao. Thank you united people of Davao and Thank you Government of Davao City for supporting the initiative of Davao people sa paghatag ug lugar kung asa dalahon ang mga donation para dili ma politika. Hindi pa po ito yung promise ni mayor Duterte kaya marami pa ang maibibigay.

(For our farmers.. Initiative of people of Davao. Thank you united people of Davao and Thank you Government of Davao City for supporting the initiative of Davao people to bring these donations. These aren’t even what Mayor Duterte promised, so expect for more.)

Times like this makes you think, life is really unfair. These farmers are the ones breaking their backs just so we have a decent “rice meal” every day. They were probably hungry and couldn’t think anymore.

But, there’s got to be a better way to deal with these situations.
