Look: Miami Heat players wear #FilipinoHeritageWeek jeepney shirts

As I mentioned in a previous post, the NBA is celebrating Filipino Heritage Week from March 13 to 19.

The Miami Heat were one of the teams which commemorated Philippine culture. During the pre-game broadcast of their game against the New Orleans Pelicans, the Heat players were seen wearing the specially-designed Filipino Heritage Week shirts which bore a jeepney silhouette with “PILIPINAS” written on it.

The NBA even made a special tribute video for Filipino-American and Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

“I’m proud to be Filipino, but when it is honored around the NBA, it’s just a special thing,” Spoelstra said in the post-game conference after his team’s 120-112 win over the Pelicans.

Goran Dragic, who scored 33 points in the victory, also had a special message to Filipino NBA fans.

While the Heat celebrated Filipino Heritage Week in Miami, NBA fans in the Philippines were graced by the presence of NBA champion and former Laker Glen Rice.
