Cirque Du Soleil : Saltimbanco in Manila

When in Manila, you better get ready because the circus just came to town!

Following it’s very successful show, Varekai last year, Cirque du Soleil brings us another knee trembling, jaw droppingly good show with Saltimbanco!

Cirque Du Soleil : Saltimbanco in Manila

Cirque Du Soleil’s Saltimbanco is it’s longest running touring show which began in 1992. They have performed numerous sold-out shows across the globe to an audience in Europe, North and South America, Australia, Japan, New Zealand and more!

“Saltimbanco” is an Italian word which literally means “to jump on a bench,” but after watching the show…. a bench is NOTHING! Cirque Du Soleil’s Saltimbanco features 50 different artists doing a wide array of stunts and tricks from bungee jumping, to balancing acts, to spinning, to boleadoras, to juggling and even trapeze and pole dancing!

Cirque Du Soleil : Saltimbanco in Manila – What to Expect

As I’ve said earlier, and I’ll say again, the show was JAW DROPPINGLY good! From the moment you enter, even as the artists prepare, there are no boring moments!

As the other artists prepare, or as they wait for other audience members to arrive, several performers came out to simply interact with the audience. I thought it was a brilliant way to set the mood as they had us all laughing and in a happy state just before the show started.

As soon as the show began, the first thing I noticed was the colorful stage…. and COSTUMES! The colors were SO vibrant! The costumes matched the stage perfectly that it seemed as if the stage was actually moving every time the performers moved!

Their pole climbing skills left me in awe… they could climb faster and more gracefully than monkeys! Don’t take this the wrong way but they looked like lizards climbing a wall! I mean that as positively as possible! That’s how easy climbing was to them!

Another act that left me on the edge of my seat was this woman on a swing that was around 10feet above the ground! She was doing stunts and tricks that made me almost tear my boyfriend’s shirt from nervousness!

It was act after act after act! Each performance more knee trembling than the first! Saltimbanco was like a modern day circus but 10 times more daring and 10 times better!

Now if you’re not the type of person who could sit still through several acts like these, don’t worry ‘coz there are a lot of “intermission” number that will make you fall off your seat from laughing! The artists not only perform their tricks, but on several occasions, they also act like the audience watching the show – somehow manipulating the real audience as to how we would react.

Most of the language used here was either jibberish or a mix of different languages. It just goes to show that language need not really be a barrier, especially when you can perform with your body!

Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco showcases a variety of acts and talents of different levels and types, reminding us all how in this crowded city, our individuality and uniqueness will always have a place.

There’s nothing more I can really say about Cirque Du Soleil Saltimbanco that will give justice to the show! It’s really something you have to experience yourself! And trust me, by the end of the show, you’ll have nothing left to say but OH.MY.GOD.
