According to the post, the awarding ceremony was attended by 900 members of the Sangguniang Kabataan all over the country.

Gerald expressed his happiness and gratitude over the selection which he says is another platform to help and reach more people. Citing his experience during the 2009 Ondoy calamity, he said, “Doon ko po nakita ‘yung influence ng isang artista para tumulong sa kapwa. Mula noong araw na ‘yon, sinabi ko sa sarili ko na gagawin ko ang best ko, basta na sa position ako at kaya ko, para makatulong sa iba.

(“That was when I realize the influence of a celebrity to help other people. From that day on, I told myself that I will do the best that I can do, as long as I was in the position to and that I am able to, in order to help those in need.”)

He succeeded Dingdong Dantes who was last year’s appointed goodwill ambassador.
