We’re sure that some of you have asked: who is this man and why is he all over our feed?
Allow us to answer that.
His name is Bernie Sanders, a US senator from Vermont who has been serving since 2006. He was reelected in 2012 and 2018.
He was also a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020. In 2016, his campaign received enthusiasm and funding from donors until he chose to endorse eventual nominee Hillary Clinton. Donald Trump ended up winning the elections. In 2020, he was briefly dubbed as the party’s presidential frontrunner but he dropped out of the race. Joe Biden would eventually win the presidency.
According to his official website, “Bernie has been called a ‘practical and successful legislator’ and he was dubbed the ‘amendment king’ in the House of Representatives for passing more amendments than any other member of Congress.”
It adds, “Bernie has fought tirelessly for working families, focusing on the shrinking middle class and growing gap between the rich and everyone else.”
When he was mayor for Burlington, the largest city in Vermont, from 1981 to 1989, ” the city made major strides in affordable housing, progressive taxation, environmental protection, child care, women’s rights, youth programs and the arts.”

Now what we want to know is, does Sanders know he’s become a meme again? Take note, he became a meme in 2020 when a video of him asking for donations for his presidential campaign went viral. Time has called it one of the most impactful memes of the year.
The answer is yes. In an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, he said, “I was just sitting there trying to keep warm, trying to pay attention to what was going on.”
The mittens he was wearing in the photo also became viral. According to Sanders, “What was really nice, Seth, was the woman who made the mittens lives in Essex Junction, Vermont. She is a school teacher and a very, very nice person, and she has been somewhat overwhelmed with the kind of attention that is being shown to her mittens.”
