Where to See Cherry Blossoms: Japan’s Complete Sakura Forecast for 2023

Now that Japan is open for international travel, that means we can now make plans to go back and see the country bloom in breathtaking pinks and whites during its cherry blossom season this year!

According to the Japan Meteorological Corporation, sakura season will begin in the prefectures of Tokyo, Kochi, and Shimonoseki on March 22. After blooming in these southern parts of Japan, where the temperatures are considerably warmer than the rest of the country, the sakura trees will then start blossoming upward from late March all the way through the month of April. Hokkaido will be the last to see its first bloom around May 2.

  • Aomori: April 22 – April 26
  • Fukuoka: March 23 – April 1
  • Hiroshima: March 26 – April 4
  • Kanazawa: April 4 – April 10
  • Kobe: March 30 – April 7
  • Kochi: March 22 – March 30
  • Kyoto: March 27 – April 5
  • Nagano: April 9 – April 15
  • Nagoya: March 25 – April 4
  • Nara: March 29 – April 5
  • Osaka: March 28 – April 5
  • Sapporo: May 2 – May 5
  • Sendai: April 8 – April 13
  • Shimonoseki: March 22 – April 1
  • Tokyo: March 22 – March 30
  • Yokohama: March 24 – April 2
