WATCH: This Video Shows How Much You’ll Have to Spend on Various Illnesses

We all know that getting seriously sick is one of the worst things that can happen to us or our loved ones. Heart attack, cancer, and stroke are scary, but we’re not exactly sure how much these will cost us.

Sun Life Philippines recently released its latest health campaign, which aims to inspire more Filipinos to pursue a healthy lifestyle while also availing themselves of the benefits of health insurance.

One of its key initiatives is the #SunLifeWheelofLife, a simulated game show where players get a preview of the financial impact caused by various illnesses. Wheel of Life is hosted by Piolo Pascual, and he is joined by Alexa, a call center agent; Jessica, a software engineer working abroad; and Daniel, a restaurant owner. The results are bleak.

Watch it below:

In the video, we learned that strokes could cost patients P1.8 million, while breast cancer will set families back P1.5 million. Lastly, families will have to spend P1 million for the treatment of heart attacks.

What can we do?

Getting sick is scary, but there are things we can do to help prepare us for it. Some easy fixes include being physically active and eating a healthier diet. Setting aside an emergency fund is also helpful. Another popular option is to get health insurance.

Similar to Alexa, Jessica, and Daniel in Wheel of Life, it’s possible to be prepared for any medical emergencies with health insurance. Sun Life can help us with this.

Sun Life is the Filipino’s partner that can help Filipinos be well prepared against these uncertainties and live life on their own terms. Its products are specifically designed to help protect against illnesses like stroke, breast cancer, and heart attack #SunLifePartnerforLife.

Sun LifeAssure, for example, provides protection benefits against any of the covered critical illness conditions. SUN Cancer Care, on the other hand, helps policyholders be financially prepared should the Big C strike. Meanwhile, SUN Fit and Well offers comprehensive health protection coverage against any of the 100+ critical illnesses covered, from prevention to diagnosis, to treatment and recovery.

Aside from its health insurance plans, Sun Life also has a holistic approach to helping Filipinos. More than just pushing product sales, they also believe in financial and health literacy.

Sun Life brought back Sun Life Cycle PH and held a series of Wheel of Life Pop-up Fairs to provide Filipinos with more opportunities to be active and prioritize their health.

Over a thousand cyclists joined the Sun Life Cycle PH on April 23, 2023, at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite. Led by Sun Life ambassadors Piolo Pascual, Donny Pangilinan, and Matteo Guidicelli, participants enjoyed the safety of the closed roads and streets as they cycled around the area.

Meanwhile, the Wheels of Life Pop-up Fair featured various health activities around major cities in Mega Manila, as well as in Boracay and Davao. These included free consultations, health risk assessments, nutrition counseling, mental health check-ins, and diabetes testing. Those who visited the fair enjoyed game booths, free massages, a wellness corner, and other fun activities onsite.

Visitors in Boracay who were there during the Easter holidays and the Labor Day weekend enjoyed additional activities, as Sun Life offered free massages and henna tattoos, a Partner for Life photo session, and an afternoon tea break. They were also able to join activities promoting the protection of the environment, including underwater and coastal clean-ups.

In all these events, the Sun Life ReCycle PH Machine was on hand where attendees exchanged their plastic trash for a prize.
