WATCH: This New Biopic Explores How Mary Shelley Created Frankenstein

One of the most enduring monsters in literature is the creature of Frankenstein, which was immortalized by writer Mary Shelley in 1818 in the novel Frankenstein. A new biopic is set to explore how the writer developed her darkest creation and it stars Elle Fanning!

In the trailer, we see Elle Fanning as Shelley as she falls in love with her future husband, her fellow writer, the young poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. She is inspired to write Frankenstein when she attends a party by the poet Lord Byron, who issues everyone to write a ghost story.

The film is directed by Haifa al-Mansour and Fanning will be joined by Douglas Booth as Shelley, Bel Powley as Claire Clairmont, Ben Hardy as John William Polidori, Tom Sturridge as Lord Byron, Maisie Williams as Isabel Baxter, Stephen Dillane as William Godwin, and Joanne Froggatt as Mary Jane Clairmont.

Mary Shelley will premiere on May 25, 2018.
