Valentine’s Day Special – When in Manila’s V-Day Tips

Pro-Tip #11: Always Bring a Card

I am fairly sure that you know less than ten people (excluding me okay) who still send hand-written cards. Exactly. We’re a rare and dying breed (I’m not dying, thank God) and nothing says sincere and well-meant more than a hand-written note on a card. Write it like a tweet; keep it very short, to the point, and never ever say “I love you” (unless s/he’s your girl/boyfriend).

Pro-Tip #12: The Two Text Messages

After the date, what do you do? It was successful, wasn’t it? Now please don’t ruin it. After a date, whether you’re the asker or the askee, do not send more than two text messages until the next day. The first one is to say “Take care going home”. The second is to say “Thank you for the great time + goodnight (or take care, if it’s a lunch)”. An attitude of gratitude never goes out of style.

Pro-Tip #13: Try to Remember Details

You may talk again after the date. You may not. It’s always good to be positive and think you MIGHT – be armed with details from that night. You remember his favorite NBA team? You will always be awesome in his eyes. She hates whipped cream on her coffee? Every cup you get her in the future will always be perfect.

Pro-Tip #14: Never Expect

It’s a Valentine’s Day date, not a UN Peace Treaty. There is a GOOD chance that you two will not work out. It sucks, but that’s how things work. Expecting just sets you up for pain if you’re disappointed. Now, if you don’t expect and things DO work out – it will be a pleasant surprise and you may appreciate him/her even more because of that.

At the end of the day, have fun. Good luck on your Valentine’s Day date, and don’t forget to browse around When In Manila for ideas on restaurants and other great places to celebrate this special day!

P.S. This was written for humor but every joke has a grain of truth, ey?
