Content about Philippine history is always welcomed and appreciated, as it helps us learn more about the past and how it brought us here.

We recently had the Metro Manila Film Festival entry GomBurZa, which detailed the story of Mariano Gomes, José Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, the three martyred priests during the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines. The film was a top-grosser in the festival and went home with seven awards, including second Best Picture, Best Director for Pepe Diokno, and Best Actor for Cedrick Juan.

A new title is set to explore a different story in Philippine history: Tanghalang Pilipino’s (TP) Pingkian: Isang Musikal will tell the story of Emilio Jacinto during the tail end of the Philippine revolution up to the start of the Philippine-American war. The musical will narrate how Jacinto navigates the complexities of war with an unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom.

Pingkian will run March 1 to 24, 2024, at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez, CCP Complex in Pasay City.

Vic Robinson will play Emilio Jacinto/Pingkian, while Gab Pangilinan will portray Catalina de Jesus and Florencio Reyes. Bituin Escalante will join them as Josefa Dizon, Kakki Teodoro as Jose Rizal, Paw Castillo as Andres Bonifacio, Almond Bolante as Pio Valenzuela, Joshua Cadeliña as Lucio/Isyo, and Marco Viaña as Duktor.
