We are very happy to share with you the happy news that the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will have its first international concert tour in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China. The MSO will perform two concerts- an outdoor concert at the Forest Park on June 19 and a joint concert concert in collaboration with the Shenyang Symphony Orchestra (SSO) at the Shenjing Grand Hall on June 22. Led by MSO Principal Guest Conductor Maestro Marlon Chen, the MSO will perform music by Kasilag, Cayabyab, Sibelius, Rossini, Marquez, Moncado and some Chinese Classics.Â
The concert tour is part of the the Hunhe River Symphony Art Festival as  part of China’s “Belt and Road” initiative which promotes cultural exchange and understanding in among countries in the the Asian Region. This year the MSO will be the sole foreign orchestra invited to be featured in the festival, which will involve the host Shenyang Symphony Orchestra as well as other orchestras from China. The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Beijing, led by Ambassador Jose Santiago Sta. Romana, will be in attendance.
The MSO will be sending a delegation of 64 musicians, which also includes the senior players of the award-winning Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO). They are now preparing to intensively under Maestro Marlon Chen’s direction and will perform a send-off concert with excerpts from their tour repertoire on Sunday, June 2 at 6PM at the Union Church in Makati. This concert is open to the public.Â
