Hey, Upper East Siders, the new cast of the “Gossip Girl” reboot just started filming and we’ve got our first look at who the new kids of the block are.
Of course, the photos that have sprung up online will inspire nostalgia among longtime fans of the beloved show. I’m talking about the concrete steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on which the young cast was photographed sitting — an iconic location that served as a common meeting place for Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), and Blair’s “minions” during their days at Constance Billard School for Girls.

According to screenwriter and former show-runner Joshua Safran, he made sure that this new series was going to be more inclusive than the original.
“There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show,” Safran told Vulture in an interview last year. “I was the only gay writer I think the entire time I was there. Even when I went to private school in New York in the ’90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on ‘Gossip Girl’. So, this time around the leads are nonwhite. There’s a lot of queer content on this show. It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that. The thing I can’t say is there is a twist, and that all relates to the twist.”
The “Gossip Girl” reboot will take place eight years after the original blog site was taken down. It will follow a new group of New York private school teens who are tormented by their own Gossip Girl plus the added drama of social media.
It is set to premiere in 2021 on HBO Max.
