TESDA offers PNP free skills training

Last Monday, TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña told the officers of PRO-12 from Barangay Tambler, General Santos City that TESDA is willing and ready to provide police officers free skills training. This will help to capacitate them in becoming trainers of various technical-vocational courses in their communities.

“TESDA and PRO-12 can very well be excellent partners in building peace and development in the region.  We are more than glad and willing to train our uniformed personnel with various skills,” Lapeña said. “As we cannot expect our kababayans who are living in the remote areas to go to the training centers in the towns and cities, it would be best if we bring our services to their communities.”

Lapeña explained that this will increase the number of skilled workers in the far-flung communities and create more livelihood opportunities to attain inclusive and sustainable peace in the region.

The TESDA chief also cited that TESDA and PRO-12 can work together to train the Indigenous People (IP) on agri-related courses to give them more opportunities for maximizing the rich land resources in their areas.

“We can train our police officers, who are also members of Indigenous Communities, as they can be more adaptive in their respective communities,” Lapeña said. “When we are able to deliver this program, we can make people further understand the Whole-of-Nation-Approach of the government in building sustainable peace and order.”

In compliance with Executive Order No. 70, TESDA-12, as the chair of Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) in South Central Mindanao, has been working with the PRO-12, as the vice-chair, to fight insurgency in SOCCSKSARGEN.
