With the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (ADDA) being implemented, mobile navigation app Waze will soon have its voice commands available in Filipino. This aims to make it easier for motorists to navigate hands-free using the said app.

The ADDA will come in full effect starting July 6 with revised Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) that were published on June 21.

With the revised IRR, dashcams, mobile phones, and other gadgets are now allowed as long as they are mounted within the safe zone. The dashcam is recommended to be placed behind the rearview mirror. Meanwhile, mobile phones and other gadgets can be used for navigation but it must be hands-free.

Navigation apps like Waze or Google Maps should be set before driving.

If caught, violators will face a fine of:

  • P5,000 for first offense
  • P10,000 for second offense
  • P15,000 for third offense
  • P20,000 for beyond third offense

Waze commands have been available in various languages and voices. Actually, even celebrity voices such as Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Neil Patrick Harris, and more are available.
