Torre De Manila Construction Photobombs Famous Monuments Worldwide

Dubbed the “Pambansang Photobomb” and even “Terror De Manila,” the Torre De Manila Construction along Taft Avenue has been a controversial issue and for good reason.

Ever since construction, there have been numerous petitions to halt the work and even calls for demolition of the said building. In what can be called a small victory for cultural heritage, the Philippine Supreme Court has ordered a Temporary Restraining Order against the the construction of the 49- storey DMCI project last week. Pending further proceedings, however, we have yet to know how all of this will turn out.

Facebook user Al Perez Manlangit condemns the construction of the building and makes his sentiment felt through this powerful post:

“ONLI IN DA PILIPINS! I dug out my photos of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Big Ben in London, the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. and the Taj Mahal in Agra, India and wondered how they would look like with their own photobomber Torre structure. Looks terribly ugly! And am sure they would never even dream of building this monstrosity in the midst of their beloved icons. But then in the Philippines, anything happens because we seem to be a country with no appreciation of our past and no sense of our future. What a disgrace! Jose Rizal must be turning in his grave.”

Do you think we should demolish Torre De Manila?
