PITX Expects 1.6 Million Passengers for Undas Season 2023

The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) is ramping up its preparations for the upcoming Undas season alongside the Land Transportation Office (LTO). An estimated 1.6 million passengers are expected to travel over the long weekend, which coincided with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

As a major transport hub, PITX emphasized that safety remains their top priority despite the surge of passengers. In collaboration with the LTO, PITX is taking proactive measures to ensure the roadworthiness of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) and the well-being of their drivers.

“The safety of our passengers is of paramount importance to us, especially during this period when travel volumes are exceptionally high,” Jason Salvador, Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations of PITX said.

Among the measures they conducted were rigorous vehicle inspections and random drug tests for 100 drivers, which resulted in five drivers who tested positive. These initiatives aim to provide passengers peace of mind, ensuring they travel safely in vehicles driven by qualified individuals.

“Our collaboration with the Land Transportation Office and the IACT underscores our commitment to the safety and security of all those who will be using PITX as their gateway to their Undas destinations,” he added.

In addition to the safety checks, a substantial anti-colorum campaign has been launched by the LTO in conjunction with the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (IACT) to weed out unauthorized and out-of-line PUVs from operating. They believe this will further enhance passenger safety by only allowing legitimate PUVs on the road.

During the campaign, four buses, two UV express, two traditional jeepneys, and one shuttle were apprehended for out-of-line and unregistered vehicles.

Salvador continued, “Our partnership with the LTO and IACT in this massive anti-colorum campaign aligns with our goal of protecting passengers from individuals who engage in illegal and unregulated PUV operations,”

PITX and LTO assure passengers a seamless and secure commute experience for the upcoming Undas season.

“This coordinated effort will create a safer and more orderly travel experience for all,” he concluded.
