6. The series was filmed entirely in France.

The whole series was filmed in Paris and the nearby Loire Valley, where the scenes at Camille’s family estate were filmed. Yes, all of the famous Paris landmarks you see in the series were shot on-site.

5. The outfits were heavily influenced by a movie.

Patricia Field’s costume design for Emily in Paris was heavily influenced by the 1951 movie ‘An American in Paris’.

4. Lily grew up studying French.

Sadly, she is no longer fluent in the language. However, once she started practicing for the show, she began dreaming in it as she once did.

3. Emily’s opera outfit is inspired by Audrey Hepburn.

Patricia Field thinks that Lily Collins is a dead ringer for Audrey Hepburn, saying that Lily also shares the same positive, innocent attitude. The outfit Emily wears to the opera in Episode 6 is actually an homage to Audrey Hepburn in ‘Funny Face’.

2. There is also an homage to Carrie Bradshaw in the show.

Darren Star, the creator of ‘Emily in Paris’, is also the creator of ‘Sex and the City’, where he and Patricia Field also worked together. It therefore makes sense that there are various nods to Carrie Bradshaw in the show. For starters, the black tulle skirt that Emily wears in Episode 2 is reminiscent to Carrie’s tulle skirt in the series finale of ‘Sex and the City’, which was also set in Paris.

That aside, Emily’s earrings that say ‘Emily’ in cursive are a sly nod to Carrie’s famous ‘Carrie’ necklace in ‘Sex and the City’. Lily actually believes that Emily probably grew up watching ‘Sex and the City’, and saw a lot of herself in Carrie and was inspired by her wardrobe.

1. Lily Collins got to keep the iconic dress.

The Pierre Cardeau dress that Emily has to unexpectedly model in Episode 9 is actually an haute couture dress design by Stephane Rolland Haute Couture. After filming, Stephane sent Lily a clean version of the dress and shoes for her to keep.
