Susan Roces, the wife of the late Fernando Poe Jr., has shared her thoughts on the recently passed law by President Duterte renaming Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City to FPJ Avenue.
The veteran actress issued a statement through the office of Senator Grace Poe, her daughter with FPJ, expressing her heartfelt thanks for the new law honoring her husband.
“Maraming salamat sa inyong pagkilala at pagpapahalaga sa aking kabiyak sa pagpapangalan sa kanya ng FPJ Avenue,” she wrote. “Maging inspirasyon sana ang kababaang-loob, malasakit sa kapwa, at pagmamahal sa sining ni FPJ sa bawat daraan sa abenidang ito.”
[Translation: Thank you very much for recognizing and honoring my husband in the naming of FPJ Avenue after him. May his humility, compassion for his fellowmen, and love for the arts be an inspiration to all who will pass by this Avenue.]
Sen. Grace Poe also issued her own statement regarding the news on her Facebook page.
“For every Filipino, every ‘probinsyano’ (every person from the province) who will pass along this avenue, we hope this serves as a physical reminder that no dream is too big and no goal is ever out of reach. Nawa’y magsilbing ehemplo ng katatagan, pagpupunyagi at pag-asa ang buhay ni FPJ sa ating mga kababayan (May FPJ’s life serve as an example to all Filipinos to have courage, perseverance, and hope),” she said
The late action star is remembered by all as “Da King” for starring in nearly 300 movies, some of which he also wrote, directed, and produced, throughout the course of his 46-year career in showbiz.
He suffered a stroke in 2004, months after the Presidential elections.
