Saling Tigre: A Creative Show to Empower Outsider Brands and Artists

Saling Tigre, an event for creative brands and individuals held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, is welcoming all local and transplanted creatives, artists, and musicians who have felt being “othered” or being an “outsider”.

‘Saling Tigre’ is the opposite of the Filipino term “saling-pusa/saling-kitkit, which was used to describe people who are not really part of a game – token participants, or people who do not really have the skills or requirements to join. By reclaiming the term, Saling Tigre wants to highlight those who have felt like outsiders, or do not have the privilege of being mainstream. Brands who started from underground niches and have made waves in their respective crafts.

Co-founder Morris Jamlang says, “For too long, Pinoys like me who live abroad have always felt like an outsider. Not really American, not fully Filipino either. Running a creative business like Equilibrium USG showed me that we can definitely compete with everyone else in the game.”

Brands such as Quiccs, The Maverick, SNK ATK Design Lab, and Indonesia-based Machine56 joined forces with Morris and Equilibrium USG for a one-day retail and buyer’s show to highlight the creatives for everyone to see. To become an inspiration for individuals trying to “get in the game”.

The Saling Tigre show features retail booths from Equilibrium USG, Quiccs, SNK ATK, The Maverick, WEARy Studios, plus panel discussions on building a brand and going international. Exclusive releases and prizes are also available during the show.
