Research Shows That Manila Has the Third Most Expensive Cost of Living and the Lowest Average Salary in Southeast Asia

Research by eCommerce aggregator iPrice reveals that Manila has the third most expensive cost of living and the lowest average salary in Southeast Asia. This is out of six of Southeast Asia’s popular cities on Numbeo that their meta-search group has reportedly gathered. Numbeo is one of the world’s largest cost of living databases.

Singapore

There is a wide gap between Singapore and the rest of the Southeast Asian cities. It is without a doubt, the most expensive city to live in Southeast Asia. According to Numbeo, a family of four’s estimated monthly costs in the Lion City sum up to ₱170,567.52 (without rent); while a single person’s estimated monthly costs sum up to ₱46,825.46 (without rent).

Next to it is Bangkok (Thailand) where a family of four’s estimated monthly costs total is ₱109,637.34 (without rent), while a single person’s estimated monthly costs total is  ₱30,700.02 (without rent).

Finally, a family of four’s estimated monthly costs in Manila amount to ₱99,232.21 (without rent), while a single person’s estimated monthly costs amount to ₱28,691.23 (without rent). It tops the others’ on iPrice’s research by 33% (Kuala Lumpur), 28% (Ho Chi Minh), and 24% (Jakarta). Yet, the city’s average salary based on the online database is only ₱18,684.21 per month, the lowest among the mentioned cities.
