Spread the word: This canned liver spread is not FDA-approved

Reno liver spread has been around for as long as we remember. A small can that is known for its characteristic blue and yellow label bearing a rich spread, it remains as a staple among Filipinos.

But liver spread lovers, listen up. That famous brand you know and love? It’s actually not FDA-approved.

In an advisory posted on the Food and Drug Administration’s website last Wednesday, the public was warned against buying and consuming Reno liver spread since it does not have any Certificate of Product Registration.

Other unregistered food items cited in the advisory include Miracle White Advance Whitening Capsules Food Supplement, Turcumin 100% Natural & Standardized Turmeric Curcumin, Desa Spanish Style Bangus in Corn Oil, and Samantha’s Dip and Sauce Spanish Sardines Paste Sauce.

Because these products are not registered, the FDA states that it “cannot assure its quality and safety.” Thus, groceries and other establishments are warned “not to distribute, advertise, or sell” the aforementioned products until they are properly certified.
