Renegade Folk: #OwnYourStep with these Chic Marikina-Made Sandals!

When I was in elementary, I was taught that Marikina is the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines.” My school took a field trip to Marikina, and I had a very awkward photo taken with a giant shoe. For most of my teenage years, that was my only connection with Marikina-made shoes. Most of my shoes came from malls, which always seemed more convenient.

It was only recently when I developed a curiosity towards locally made items. And when I research about locally produced shoes, one of the names that often pops up is Renegade Folk. Shoes by Renegade Folk are designed and handcrafted by local artisans. This fascinating video gives you a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes.

Last November 26, Renegade Folk opened a branch in UP Town Center. I went to their opening and checked out the shoes in person. The friendly staff was accommodating as I browsed through their items and asked about their new designs.

Guests munched on treats from The Chocolate Kiss, Renegade Folk’s neighbor in their new UPTC branch.

The shop was designed with pastel and wooden accents, and the white walls doubled as shoe racks with labels of the shoes’ names.

The shop was packed with people! It didn’t stop us from having a great shopping experience, because the staff was very alert and accommodating.

After looking at all the designs, I eventually decided to take home The New Trust. I like the classic design and the festive color.  It’s so easy to pair it with casual and semi-formal outfits.

Love Redefined was my second choice. They two shoes have similar designs and even have the same color, but The New Trust won me over because of its adjustable straps. renegade-folk-7

Here I am obviously very happy with my choice. 🙂

It was fun to watch others choose their own items from Renegade Folk. I watched as they tried on different items, and peeked to see which they brought to the counter. I appreciate how the staff was all-smiles even as the lines got longer.

Apart from their UP Town Center branch, you could also shop for items online through their website.

They have an interesting mix of both classic and daring designs, so I’m sure you’ll find something to suit your own taste.
