Here are the Many Reasons Why We’re So Excited to See The Snyder Cut of ‘Justice League’

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the Snyder Cut!

If you’re a full-blood fan of the DC comics (or just the films, fine), then you might have rallied for the movement #ReleaseTheSnyderCut to put out the unadulterated Zack Snyder version of the 2017 film Justice League.

What is this “Snyder Cut”, anyway? Can it redeem the film from the “visually ugly and boring” Hollywood Reporter slam?

Snyder, the mastermind behind two other DCEU (DC Extended Universe) films Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (BvS), left his Justice League directorial duties after the sudden death of his daughter during post-production. This is where Joss Whedon, the writer of the film (who, by the way, directed two major films from another comic universe) stepped in to take over. And, as they say, the rest is history (a forgettable one, at that!).

Snyder himself has confirmed that only 1/4 of his material was actually used in the theatrical version. The film garnered a lackluster average rating of 5.26/10 on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.4% on IMDB. It also became the first film of the DCEU to open under $100 million. Snyder originally planned to serve fans a 4-hour supermovie and a trilogy.

After all that had happened–the hearsay, the teases on Snyder’s Vero, the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut tumult- Zack and his film producer wife Deborah along with Supes himself, Henry Cavill, who “crashed the little watch party”, officially announced it with a black-and-white poster during the Man of Steel watch party live Q&A with fans. They raised the roof (and all my hairs) even higher when Zack told us to “get ready”.

Here are the many exciting things we might see in the Snyder Cut (at the very least, this is what the existing cut contains):

  • Superman’s long-time arch nemesis, Darkseid, which Snyder recently took to Twitter:

  • Superman’s black suit, also known as the Recovery Suit, which he would be seen in upon his return from the dead
  • Continuation of the Knightmare storyline from BvS
  • Re-enlisting Batfleck (Ben Affleck’s Batman)
  • The original cut of the post-credit scene featuring Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello himself spilled it on his Instagram!)
  • Steppenwolf’s background story
  • Character developments
  • Cyborg with a much larger role
  • A more badass final act, visually and narratively (this was Whedon’s biggest retake and mistake)
  • Cavill’s missing mustache???

Okay, not serious on that last one; but this is all thanks to the serious fans who chanted along with the movement that even a Warner Bros. executive called their office’s “daily drumbeat”. “Clearly, this wouldn’t be happening without [the fans],” Snyder admitted.

The film’s Batman, Aquaman, and Cyborg have joined in the hype, too. See their Instagram posts below:

Zack Snyder’s Justice League, as it is now appropriately called, debuts next year on the new streaming service HBO Max.

Okay. So… is it 2021 yet?
