Police Apologize for Using the Siren from ‘The Purge’ to Signal Curfew

Here in the Philippines, a curfew was set early on in the quarantine from 8PM to 5AM and some people have reported on social media that their respective barangays have decided to ring bells to signal the curfew. In Louisiana in the U.S., however, they decided to use the siren heard in the horror film ‘The Purge’ to signal the curfew.

In the movie, the siren symbolizes the start of a government-sanctioned block of time when crime is legal (including murder). Check out this video posted by Adam John Schexnayder on Facebook as the police car passed by:

The police in Louisiana have since apologized for their choice of siren with Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard stating that he didn’t know that the sound was from the movie. Moving forward, they have announced that they will no longer be using any signals for the curfew.

How would you react if you heard ‘The Purge’ siren signaling the curfew in your city?
