Philippines records over twice as many COVID-19 recoveries than deaths

COVID-19 recoveries in the Philippines has reached over double the number of deaths, as per the last official tally.

The Department of Health announced 199 new cases, 93 new recoveries, and 14 new deaths this May 5. This brings the total number of cases up to 9,684. The total count for recoveries is up to 1,408 while deaths are at 637.

According to the DOH, recovery from the virus takes an average of 2 weeks for patients with mild symptoms. Recovery of severe to critical cases may take up to six weeks.

The DOH aims to conduct 30,000 COVID-19 tests per day by the end of May.
