Philippines Bags One Silver Medal, Two Bronzes at 6th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships

When in Manila, the Azkals may have lost to Kuwait, but we should never lose hope for there are far greater things to come for our Philippine Athletes! Speaking of which, congratulations to the Philippine Team for bringing home the bacon in the recently-concluded World Taekwondo Federation’s (WTF) 6th World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships held at Vladivostok, Russia!

Philippines bagged a total of one silver medal and two bronzes at the said competition. Marvin Gabriel won a silver medal at the Individual Junior Men’s Division, while PSA ‘Athletes of the Year’ and taekwondo jins Francesca Camille Alarilla, Rani Ann Ortega and Ma. Carla Janice Lagman bagged bronze for the Women’s 1st Team Category (they share the same title with Turkey in the same division). On the opening ceremony, the Philippine team also won a bronze in a free-style poomsae friendship exhibition contest.

 

This three-day event was participated by 570 athletes in 53 countries from all over the world. A total of 18 countries bagged at least one medal each.

 

An estimated seven million people around the world are practicing Taekwondo to date.
