Famous Youtuber Lloyd Cadena posted a story from one of his followers about her recent trip with her son to the famous Manila Zoo. She tells the story of her rewarding her son to a trip of his choice, The Manila Zoo but they were both disappointed with the current situation:
- Nobody was maintaining the surroundings, there were trash everywhere, even inside the cages of the animals.
- Nobody was guarding the visitors, they were feeding the animals junk food even trash
- Employee was smoking on duty while handing tickets
- Employees without uniforms and even are dressed inappropriately

I was surprised na hindi niya pinili ang Star City or Enchanted Kingdom but he chose, yes, your zoo. Ayaw ko man, ang general average na 97% ay hindi tatablan ng “NO, anak”.
So dahil nasa Maynila naman na kami, minabuti kong dumaan na muna sa National Museum of the Philippines. He was skeptical at first, ano daw ba ang makikita niya doon? I assured, a lot. And hindi naman ako nabigo. On this photo, you can see that he is so happy. He discovered new things about the Philippines’ culture, seeing 300-500 year old artworks, unusual sculptures from artists he barely knew, and he learned from here. He was so amazed. Pero when we went to your zoo. Ang sakit, so hayaan niyo akong sulatan kayo dito.
Dear Manila Zoo,
But my son was patient, we’ll get there. Kinakabahan ako, ano ang aabutan namin dun? So sinabi ko sa kanya, na baka hindi na kasing-ayos ang zoo like how I told him “back in the day”.
And I was right. Manila Zoo broke our hearts. It was the most heart-breaking trip I ever had and I know, sa anak ko rin.
Wala akong picture, I was so busy shouting and distracting these animals para hindi isubo ang nakikita nila. They are totally in danger.
Lastly, I am calling the attention of all your employees. Zoo ba kayo o bar? We went there on a sunday, sure, pero hindi ba dapat mas presentable kayo kapag weekends dahil mas marami kayong bisita?
Nakakahiya. And thank you for disappointing my son. I never took photos kasi I am never proud of what I saw.

Have you been to Manila Zoo recently? How was your experience? How can the management improve?
I’m wondering whatever happened to this – https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/692838/p1-5-b-rehab-program-to-turn-manila-zoo-into-world-class-attraction-starts-in-july
Yes let us all blame the zoo and its staff for the poor conditions and all the trash. May mga janitor naman e diba. Its their job to keep it clean. lets all point at the easy targets and not at the source of where the trash comes from. so if i visit all your homes and i see you have maids and you pay for their salary ima feel free to throw my garbage anywhere i like because you have people hired to “keep the place clean”. No wonder our roads are full of a## holes, no wonder our streets, shore lines, rivers and lakes are full of trash, no wonder our country is the way it is…. because we have too many people pointing thier fingers at whos to blame or whos responisble… we are all responsible for our own actions… practice awareness! be the change you want to see. and maybe… just maybe people will follow you. iv been to the zoo during times when it does not have many visitors. the place is clean and organized. iv also been to the zoo when it is packed with guests and guess what… the place looks like a dump. so before anyone starts pointing their fingers and complaining about the poor conditions of the zoo. maybe you better see the bigger picture and see where the problem is coming from. the zoo staff can only do so much with the budget they have to work with. you want to see your zoo in better conditions than give the staff a hand and respect the place!
nakakadismaya nga nman tong obserbasyon nato..klangan n naman tawagan agencia ng gubyerno..klan kaya sila magiging proactive??????????????????
My two cents for tihis: nung bata pa ako mahilig ako sa mga zoo dahil mahilig ako sa mga animals. But as time goes by, and I know now that animals have rights, karapatin din nila na mamuhay ng maayos sa normal na habitat nila. Kaya I am not a fan of zoo’s AT ALL. I would prefer an animal place and they will call it animal sanctuary, where animals can freely live and not behind closed cages, or chicken wires!.. No, for the view sake of humanity, para pagkakitaan, para sa sandaling kaligayahan lang na makita ang mga hayop na ito, hindi makatarungan na ikulong sila.. So, hell yeah, I hate zoo’s we are only teaching our youth of today to care less of other living things..
