One More Chance is one of the most iconic Filipino movies of all time, which is why so many are excited to catch the musical adaptation to be staged by the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), featuring the songs of Ben & Ben.

Adaptations are more or less faithful to their source material, so some are wondering if One More Chance, the Musical will stay true to the Star Cinema film.

According to Michelle Ngu-Nario, the musical’s playwright, the answer is yes.

“I would say very faithful kasi malaki yung respeto namin sa materyal. Alam namin na maraming nagmamahal sa kwento so as I said, we’re not trying to deconstruct it. So kung ano yung napanood niyo sa pelikula, makikita niyo yun…” she said during One More Chance, the Musical’s press conference.

The playwright teased the audience by adding, “… and more. Kung ano yung ‘and more,’ yun ang exciting because what else can you add to something so beautiful? May ikaka-beautiful pa pala siya.”

One More Chance, The Musical, will run from April 12 to June 30, 2024, at the PETA-Phinma Theater in New Manila, Quezon City.

One More Chance, The Musical is based on the film of the same name, directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc.

PETA’s musical adaptation brings the iconic love story of Popoy and Basha to life. It creates a more nuanced and expanded experience for audiences, thanks to Ben&Ben’s captivating and emotionally charged songs. The musical includes the band’s smash hits “Kathang Isip,” “Araw-Araw,” and “Leaves,” to name a few.

Audiences can expect a richer version that examines various lessons and themes from the vantage point of today’s generation, nearly two decades since the film’s premiere.

The musical features a powerhouse cast led by Sam Concepcion and CJ Navato, who will play Popoy, together with Anna Luna and Nicole Omillo as Basha.

Kiara Takahashi and Sheena Belarmino join them as Tricia, and Jef Flores and Jay Gonzaga as Mark. The musical will also feature Poppert Bernadas and Paji Arceo as Kenneth, Ada Tayao and Rica Laguardia as Krizzy, Via Antonio and Dippy Arceo as Anj, Jon Abella as JP, and Johnnie Moran as Chinno.

The cast also includes budding and veteran theater artists: Chez Cuenca, Coleen Paz, JC Galano, Matthew Barbers, Neomi Gonzales, Carla Guevara Laforteza, Raul Montesa, Floyd Tena, and Hazel Maranan.

One More Chance, The Musical is written by Michelle Ngu-Nario, directed by Maribel Legarda, assistant direction and dramaturgy by J-mee Katanyag, musical direction and sound design by Myke Salomon, choreography by Michael Barry Que, set design by Ohm David, costume design by Carlo Pagunaling, lighting design by David Esguerra, and projection design by Bene Manaois.
