One Direction member Liam Payne and singer Cheryl are on cloud nine as new parents to their baby boy Bear, and as it turns out, they have Niall Horan and X-Factor judge Simon Cowell to thank for their happiness together.
The 23-year-old star revealed that it was his bandmate and mentor that set the wheels in motion for the two.
Liam first met Cheryl when he auditioned for her on X-Factor in 2008, when he was 14 and she was 24. Yet it would take some more years before the 33-year-old singer would set her eyes on the boy band member. The two got together in 2016 and made their red carpet debut together in May last year, at a French fundraising gala.
Niall and Simon respectively told Liam and Cheryl about each other’s crush.
Liam recalled:
“Niall came over to me and said, ‘You’ll never guess who’s got a crush on you – Cheryl. I was saying something about Cheryl in Simon’s house and he said, ‘I know who the future Mrs. Payne is.’ Apparently he (Simon) really embarrassed her one day by saying, ‘Do you know who really, really fancies you?’, and she left the room bright red and Niall told me this whole story. They played Cupid.”
