Meet the New Superman (and Where You Might Have Seen Him Before)

The new Superman cast has been announced and while some of us are still mourning the loss of Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel, we’re not entirely angry. I mean… have you seen David Corenswet?

David Corenswet is the New Superman

Alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, David was said to be cast after testing in full costume and makeup for DC co-chairs Peter Safran and James Gunn. Face-wise, we can definitely see it. David is a spitting image of the comic book Superman we all know and love, that’s for sure. The build, however? We’re assuming he’ll be working out for the role so we’re not worried about that either.

As for his acting chops, if you’re on Netflix a lot, chances are, David is already a familiar face to you. He has starred as River, Ben Platt’s boyfriend, on The Politician; showed off his James Dean-ish looks in Hollywood alongside Darren Criss; and was one of two of Lili Reinhart’s beaus in Look Both Ways. He’s proven to be a versatile actor so we’re actually quite excited to see how he’ll bring Superman to life.

Our favorite bit of trivia? David actually commented on a fan casting of him as Superman once in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “My pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman,” he said. He also added, “I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.” Does this mean we might be seeing a happier and brighter Superman from David? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

The new Superman: Legacy is currently set for a 2025 release.
