This Mountaineering Summit Celebrates Outdoor Spirit and Community

The mountaineering spirit was in full force at the 18th Luzon Summit, hosted in Catanduanes by the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines Inc. (MFPI). Held in time for the island’s Abaca Festival, the summit brought together outdoor lovers from across the country, including longtime club members, new joiners, and adventurers united by a shared passion for nature.

Organized by Leaflife Outdoor Adventure, an MFPI member club based in Virac, the event was held at Punta del Mar in Barangay Agojo, San Andres. Climbs were arranged at Mt. Lantad in Bato, Mt. Sadab in Caramoran, and Mt. Pacogon in San Miguel, one of the highest peaks in Catanduanes. There was also a scenic group hike to the cliffs of Binurong Point and the Happy Island 360 tour, which gave participants a chance to circle the island through its picturesque coastal road.

With roots in the French Alps and a legacy of mountain performance, HOKA was the perfect match for this summit. Its footwear is designed to conquer tough terrain with confidence and comfort.

One lucky participant brought home the Kaha 3 GTX, HOKA’s long-haul adventure hiker that is cushier and more durable than ever before. Geared for day hikes and multi-day adventures, the Kaha 3 GTX features a soft and supportive sockliner that helps reduce foot fatigue and a dual-density sugarcane EVA midsole that adds a noticeable bounce. HOKA’s first mid-cut hiker with GORE-TEX Invisible Fit, it also comes with a durable toe cap, an Achilles-friendly heel collar to reduce pressure, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole for solid traction even on loose terrain. It is a shoe built to go far and go strong.

MFPI gatherings like the Luzon Summit are more than just a series of climbs. They are spaces for learning, bonding, and giving back. One of the main components of the summit was the Basic Mountaineering Course or BMC, which reinforced the importance of safety, ethics, and environmental responsibility among both new and experienced hikers.

The summit culminated in a lively closing program featuring music, dancing, and celebration. Reggae and ska bands, including I-riepublic and Coffeebreak Island, brought infectious energy to the night and made it a memorable sendoff for the entire community.

Through it all, HOKA stood side by side with the mountaineering community, supporting their journeys and celebrating the resilience and passion that define life in the outdoors. For every summit, every step, and every trail, HOKA is there. Born in the mountains. Made to move. Fly Human Fly.
