LOOK: This is Why We Should Wash Our Hands for 30 Seconds

Hollywood actress Kristen Bell just shared a photo on Instagram that proves why washing your hands for at least 30 seconds with soap makes a difference. Trust us, it will shock you when you see it.

The photo contained a collage of different pictures of hands after washing with soap at various lengths of time under a blacklight. Noticeably, only when the hands are washed for 30 seconds that they are clean of germs, dirt, and bacteria that you don’t know are actually there.

“30 SECONDS WITH SOAP YALL!!!” Kristen said in the caption.

Recently, the topic of washing hands for at least 20-30 seconds has gone viral amid the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). According to health officials, washing your hands frequently with soap is the best preventive measure against the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has already listed down instances when you should wash your hands. Some of these include:

  • before, during, and after preparing or eating food;
  • after using the toilet;
  • after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing;
  • after caring for someone who is sick;
  • and after touching garbage.

They have also warned that washing hands is much more effective than just using hand sanitizer.

Make it a habit to start washing your hands with soap frequently, and to do so for at least 20 seconds—which is about as long as singing “Happy Birthday” twice. It would help too if you find a song you want to sing every day that’s about as long as that! Need some suggestions? Consider the chorus of “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, “Africa” by Toto, or “Truth Hurts” by Lizzo. Or, if you’re a KPOP stan, consider the chorus of “ON” by BTS, “Cheer Up” by TWICE, “ddu-du ddu-du” by Blackpink, or “Don’t Want to Cry” by Seventeen.
