LOOK: This Spider Looks Like the Sorting Hat in ‘Harry Potter’

Check this out! Mumbai researchers and naturalists Javed Ahmed, Rajashree Khalap and Sumukha Javagal recently discovered a new spider species in Karnataka and it looks like the Sorting Hat from the ‘Harry Potter’ series!

In fact, it looks so much like it, they named the new species after Godric Gryffindor! The spider is barely 7mm long and has been scientifically named Eriovixia gyrffindori. How cool is that?

While the spider is shaped that way with hopes of camouflaging into dried leaves, the researchers, who are fans of ‘Harry Potter‘ immediately thought of the Sorting Hat first and thus decided on that name.

Even J.K. Rowling thinks it’s awesome. After the discovery, she tweeted, “I’m truly honoured! Congratulations on discovering another #FantasticBeast!”
