For those lazy to wear a costume to Halloween, a mask is the easiest way to get into the ghoulish spirit. Stores sell them in various designs, and there are plenty of printable masks online. Even the Philippine National Police (PNP) is getting into the act as they are giving out Halloween masks…
including that of USA president Barack Obama.
The paper mask collection features frightening designs, but the Obama mask stands out because it’s the least scary. The masks are distributed to give safety tips, which are printed at the back. However, the PNP made clear that including Obama was not meant as an insult.
Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz, director of the PNP Police Community Relations Group (PCRG), told Inquirer.net that it was printed in a good way to pique curiosity. He told the website, “We’ve been getting many requests to produce Obama masks so I thought, there’s no problem with that. So we used their curiosity to relay our objective of teaching them crime prevention tips.”
He added that they also printed masks of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The masks are given out in select establishments and train stations in Metro Manila. Cruz noted that none of the masks went to the trash.
