LOOK: H.E.R.’s Belle Costume Features a Detail That Honors Her Filipino Roots

Earlier this year, we found out that H.E.R., whose real name is Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, will be playing Belle in “Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration.” The live-action/animated special is soon to air on December 15 on ABC Network in the U.S., and on December 16 on Disney Plus. But, Filipino fans are already hyped with the first look of the half-Filipino, half-African-American singer’s Belle costume.

Photographs revealed that the Disney princess costume has been given an added feature–Baybayin text. Apparently, designers have incorporated the indigenous Tagalog script into Belle’s dress which reads “Bel”.

On Instagram, the Oscar and Grammy winner expressed her enthusiasm as she wrote: “AHHHHHHHHHHHH IM SOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!! Join me for the #BeautyAndTheBeast30th, Thursday, Dec 15 on @ABCNetwork and Stream the next day on @DisneyPlus !!!!!”
