LOOK: First-Ever Game-Worn Michael Jordan Nikes for Auction at 1 Million Dollars

Heads up, sneakerheads! The most valuable pair of sneakers to ever be auctioned off is revealed to be Michael Jordan’s first game-worn Nike Air Ships.

Jordan wore the mentioned sneakers on November 1, 1984, during his fifth pro game ever in his rookie season. The Air Ship was the first basketball shoe worn by Jordan as an NBA professional. It was also in 1984 that Nike first gave a player his own signature line of shoes and clothes. The Nike Air Ship will ultimately become the predecessor of the iconic Air Jordan line we have today—as well as other player collaborations.

Sotheby’s, one of the world’s largest brokers of art, jewelry, and collectibles, announced that the pair will be part of the “Icons of Excellence & Haute Luxury” auction happening this October 24. The sneakers are expected to be sold at a price between 1 million to 1.5 million dollars.

The most expensive pair of sneakers to be sold through an auction house was Kanye West’s “Grammy Worn” Nike Air Yeezy 1 Prototypes from 2008, which went for $1.8 million. But it was sold privately and not through an auction.
