Tech fans tuned in to Apple’s virtual event as it introduced the iPhone 13, the mini, the Pro, and the Pro Max. We’re not super techies so our biggest takeaway is that they come in beautiful colors!
The iPhone 13 and mini will be available in (PRODUCT)RED, starlight, midnight, blue, and pink. Meanwhile, the iPhone Pro and Pro Max will be available in graphite, gold, silver, and the all-new sierra blue.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, described the iPhone 13 and the mini as “more powerful, more capable, and more fun to use.”
For the Pro and Pro Max versions, he said that it comes with the “biggest advancement for our camera system, the best battery life ever in an iPhone, and the fastest performance of any smartphone, setting a new standard for iPhone and enabling incredible experiences never before possible.”
Here are some key specs if you’re thinking of upgrading your phone:
The iPhone 13 and mini feature 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch displays with improved Super Retina XDR OLED displays. Meanwhile, the Pro and Pro Max have 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays with the Super Retina XDR with ProMotion.
Apple also improved the battery life of its new offerings. According to Apple, the “iPhone 13 delivers incredible all-day battery life, offering up to two and a half more hours in a day than iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 mini provides up to an hour and a half more in a day than iPhone 12 mini.”
For the iPhone 13 Pro, it will last up to one and a half hours longer in a day than iPhone 12 Pro, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max will last up to two and a half hours longer in a day than iPhone 12 Pro Max.
A new Wide camera has the biggest sensor ever in an iPhone dual-camera system, which can gather 47% more light for less noise and brighter photos and videos. The iPhone Pro and Pro Max have an even bigger sensor for even more detailed photos.
In terms of video, Cinematic mode has a depth effect with automatic focus changes. The focus can also be adjusted even after recording. The iPhone Pro and Pro Max also come with ProRes, “an advanced video codec used widely as the final delivery format for commercials, feature films, and broadcasts, to offer higher color fidelity and less compression.”
The iPhone lineup is run by A15 Bionic, described as “much faster than the competition, delivering more performance and better power efficiency, making everything even more fluid.”
The iPhone 13 has more 5G bands, which means it can work in more places on 5G for greater coverage and performance.
Pre-orders begin Friday, September 17, with availability beginning Friday, September 24.
