This Isn’t What Dreams Are Made Of: Hilary Duff Opens Up About Canceled “Lizze McGuire” Revival

Sorry to disappoint all the 90s and early 2000s kids, but it turns out that the much-awaited “Lizzie McGuire” Revival is no longer happening.

The reboot, which was supposed to air on Disney+ this year, has been delayed for quite some time and it’s only now that Hilary Duff herself came forward to make the announcement.

Lizzie McGuire Revival

“It’s been an honor to have Lizzie in my life. She has made a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me,” Hilary wrote on an Instagram post. “I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make work, but sadly and despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen.”

Rumors about Disney allegedly wanting to censor “Lizzie McGuire” has been circulating online ever since the original series creator Terri Minsky was reportedly fired from the project as the showrunner due to “creative differences.” At the time when news of that broke out, Hilary shared a cryptic post on her Instagram stories wherein she encircled the headline of a viral story about the “Love, Simon” television series being pulled out of Disney+ for allegedly not being “family-friendly.”

“Sounds familiar…” she wrote on the post.

Fans were then left wondering if the “Lizzie McGuire” cast and producers would ever see eye-to-eye on the future of the revival. Unfortunately, it seems that they were not able to.

“I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her,” she continued. “I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align.”

“Hey now, this is what 2020’s made of,” she ended in jest.
