Leonard Nimoy, Spock from Star Trek, Passes Away: LLAP

US President Barack Obama tweeted: “Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy.” —President Obama #LLAP

It is a sad day for family, friends and geeks all over the world. One of the most iconic geek culture figures passed away today from end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Leonard Nemoy played the half-alien 1st officer of the USS Enterprise on the TV show and movies: Star Trek. It was said that Leonard Nimoy had gotten the disease from smoking, though he quit years ago.

This was tweeted on Leonard Nimoy’s Twitter account:

Hi all, as you all know, my Grandpa passed away this morning at 8:40 from end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was an extraordinary man, husband, grandfather, brother, actor, author-the list goes on- and friend. Thank you for the warm condolences. May you all LLAP. – Dani

P.s. I will be putting special shirts up on our site, SHOPLLAP.com , where all of the proceeds will go to the COPD Foundation. I hope to hear from you all.

Hashtags of #LLAP are going around. This is short for “Live Long And Prosper” (“dif tor heh smusma” in the Vulcan language as spoken in Star Trek: The Motion Picture), the common greeting from Spock and the Vulcan race.

You will be missed dearly Mr. Spock. May you Live Long And Prosper in the afterlife.
