When you’re starring in a critically acclaimed musical written by an award-winning composer, based on a play by a National Artist, and performing alongside some of the country’s best thespians, that can entail some very big shoes to fill.
Yet it seems that Paulo Avelino may have earned quite the validation after Broadway and West End icon Lea Salonga tweeted praise for the 29-year-old actor.
Lea tweeted:
If you’re a fan of #PauloAvelino, I urge you to watch his stellar performance in #ngLarawan. He doesn’t sing as well as the others, but his acting! He will be one of the greatest as he continues to grow!!! Congrats!!!
Paulo replied to Lea’s tweet, saying:
Always doubted myself doing a musical part due to the singing parts might affect my performance. Reading messages like this helps build my confidence to tackle even more challenging roles. Thank you @MsLeaSalonga
Paulo, who played the role of a struggling pianist in the movie, is not a trained singer, and “Ang Larawan” is in fact, his first musical film.
